( 3 / 251 )I have noticed some recent news articles about value brand sales increases. So people are spends less on food?
This is just one area of the UK economy which is experiencing a significant "tightening of belts" from UK consumers. However, the likes of Tesco and Sainsbury have managed to grab the attention of some value shoppers to make up for an expected slowdown in the sale of premium products.
I don't know if this is necessarily a good sign. If it looked like people were eating less or eating better than that would be good news but buying cheaper food probably isn't a positive thing.
First of all, healthier organic food is almost always more expensive. Big bags of cheap crisps or cereal are cheaper but worse for you.
I'm all for saving money on your food bills every month but let's not forget about healthy eating. If you really want to save money, quit smoking or cancel your cable subscription or something like that.
Think about that one over the weekend.

( 3 / 254 )We added a IVA news & debt feed on the site. It's just down at the bottom of the main page. It's part of our commitment to becoming the best debt resource site on the internet.
When I mentioned the new informal agreements section I forgot to mention that we now have a number of informal agreement templates as well.
There is a Holding Letter template which is to be used to send to creditors if you aren’t able to make an offer immediately and need time to make a decision.
We also put up an Offer letter sample which is to be sent to your non-priority creditors when you want to make an offer to pay them back at lower rate than you currently owe. For more information about offer letters to your creditors please contact our free information service.
Finally, there is also a No Offer Letter template which is sent to your creditors if you are unable to make any offer to them. Before making the decision to send this letter it’s best that you seek financial advice to make sure this is the best way forward.
Tomorrow I'll talk about food!

( 3 / 257 )It looks further job cuts for the banking industry. I could be talking about any of a number of news articles but today it's this Wall Street Journal piece that reads, "HSBC May Cut 1,200 U.K. Jobs."
If the banks aren't doing well it probably means that people are being hit hard as well. I actually use HSBC so it made me think when I saw that article because it means some of the people at my bank could well have been let go.
Here is a segment from the article:
The British division of HSBC PLC said Wednesday that it may lay off as many as 1,200 staff following a review of operations.
[HSBC] Bloomberg News
The affected staff represent about 2% of HSBC's 58,000 employees in Britain.
The cuts are being made in information technology, human resources and other support operations, not in front-line branch staff, the company said.
HSBC UK said some employees would be able to take other positions within the company.
It's good to hear that some people at company can get other positions and also that it's only effecting 2% of their staff but that's still a lot of people.
As for IVA.net news...we've posted a number of new sections over the last few weeks including a bankruptcy obligation page, one on informal arrangements, and another part on administration orders. We're hoping to be a full service provider of any and all debt resources so take a look around and I'm sure we can help.
